Pistol Shopping at Gander Mountain tonight........v.funnystory

SO I met my buddy up at Gander Mtn. a little bit ago to show him some pistols. The guy behind the counter starts talkin to us and asked him if he has shot before. I told him he has shot my XD9 and my P226, the guy seemed impressed that I owned both of those. So he tells my buddy something like :Since it's gonna be your 1st pistol, I would recomend a revolver, something down the lines of a .357 magnum, w/a 5-6" barrel". I was like :ugh2:, he said it would be VERY cheap to shoot. Again, I was like :ugh2:. Then he said "If you insist on an auto I would go with a Berreta 92F, it's the standard government issue handgun". Then procedes to take it out of the showcase. He shows him how the safety works, and how it can shoot single or double action. He kept putting it down by his waist (as if it were in a holster) and drawing, aiming, and dry firing it. Showing him how you can draw and shoot sigle/dbl. action. Then he shows us how easy it is to strip down. When he tried putting it back together, the slide would only go 1/2 way on, so he takes it back off and starts messing with the guide rod/spring. Next thing I know, there is a guide rod and spring shooting past my head and half way across the dept. Luckily it hit a sign that was hanging, or it would have went 1/2 way across the damn store. So after I find the fucking thing, he finally gets it back together and puts it away. Then he starts talking about XD's and Glocks, and says that they have the exact same trigger action, the XD just has a few added extras. All in all, it was a very entertaining experience.

Don't ask me why we went there in the 1st place.

OK, my buddy originally wanted to pick up a shotgun tonight, he was gonna get a Remi 870. Once he got there, he started looking at pistols and changed his mind, by that time we wouldn't have had enough time to make it to the local shop.

I went to Sportsman's Warehouse today, instead. Picked up a case of Wolf 7.62 for $150 out the door :hs:.

  10. gander mountain is not a place to get advice, but a place to go if you happen to see a good price, and youve already did your research elsewhere.

gander mtn and cabelas suck when it comes to knowledge (though cabelas gun library is an obvious exception) but gander mtn does have decent prices sometimes :dunno:

  12. keyword: SOMETIMES.

sometimes they have great prices, other times they make you think "WHAT. THE. FUCK."

example: saw a brand new G23 for $479.99

    good price :coold:

right next to it, saw a G21 for $669.99 :ugh:

    and a G34 for $699.99 :wtf:

Cabelas is honestly only good when something is on sale, they had a used remington 504 for $10 more than gander mtn sold it brand new :hsugh:

  14. sometimes I see, at their own store, a used gun going for more than the new one..

    same sights, everything..

It sucks how the poeple they put back there to work have no fucking clue as to what they are talking about. at least at a gun store they sorta know something.

The problem with gun stores is a lot of people really THINK that they know something. Then there are the guys that really do know a lot but they're so "my way or the highway" that you can't glean any useful information from them.

Do people go into any store and really expect actual quality advice from minimum wage salesmen be it best buy or a gunstore?

:werd: I do my own research on whatever I'm looking to purchase whether it be a firearm, car, electronic item, then goto the store and purchase what I know I already want.

I didn't expect quality advice in the 1st place, but the whole guide rod flying across the showroom really dit it in for me.

Shitty thing is, is I just purchased a pistol from them a few weeks ago, and the guy I was talking to actually knew what he was talking about.
