yea, I use raw, but I have it set for landscapes, but until LR 2 I knew it meant nothing.

I am still kinda a n00b when it comes to PP (and photog) but when I import to LR, it auto applies some contrast/brightness/blacks/etc to all images right?

I need to figure out how to change these settings :)

Is there really a point in shooting JPEG? I guess if you are doing no PP...

First thing I read when I got my DSLR was "shoot RAW" so I switched it, got photoshop (and now LR), and have never looked back :wiggle:

the only thing i hate about raw is the size of the files...even with Sraw the CF card fills up too quickly.

Thats why I have 10 GB of CF, my hard drive just hates me

I have an external HD now though, so that helps but I still like having the files on my laptop to edit whenever I feel like it. I really need to upgrade my internal HD too, 80 GB just doesn't cut it.

I delete my crap pictures all the time, if I dont like them for any reason, I get rid of them, if they are worth showing to someone else, or posting online, I keep em.

but I take a lot of pictures when I go out, and about 90% are crap, or the same thing from about 5 different angles, I only keep the one that I like

I shoot RAW also. so when shooting in RAW, there is no picture style that is active? Maybe I am misinterpreting the manual

on the camera it is SET -> PICTURE STYLE and you have 3 user defined and 6 preset styles. no where in the manual does it say that these are applied to JPGs only.

From my understanding, it is how you PP the image, when you shoot raw, the data is there, but nothing is done with it when using ACR or LR to process (now with LR 2 it does though, at least with the add-on I downloaded the other day), For people who use the nikon software, I think it does take that into consideration (I dont use it, so i dont really know what im talking about here).

Yeah, the style is just how you "develop" the shot. So if you shoot in JPG, those settings are applied in-camera and can't be changed. If you shoot RAW, it's the initial development profile when you import it through any of the canon utilities. You can also change it after the fact. Doesn't have any impact if you set it and import the raw into Lightroom.

yeah I dont use LR but I do use ACR. So basically, the style thing makes no diff cause it gets defaults by adobe

HDR #2. Seems nice and adds cartoonish effect in-camera.

I shoot in JPG when I am taking snapshots that I just want to instantly resize and post... Like if someone asks for a picture of something and there is no need to make it look "pretty." That way, I can just use ACDSee and resize/crop however I want without opening any other program.

Rumor has it the 5D II will have DH style as a custom function. If only I had some low level rapper with a pit bull or NBA star to photograph :(
