Bullets are fast.
My mom took a class at MIT from the guy that basically invented that style of picture. Lots of cool shit.
First time I've seen that crayon one as well
I'll add to this:
That balloon picture is so badass.
I'd love full prints of a few of them
Edgarton was a fuckin genious...
<<======= Refer to av. It's one of his more known pics.
that one pic makes me want to shoot an orange.
Apparently so is a balloon popping. Very fast.
yea. It's cool how the sphere of water just seems to sit there.
I didn't think at the velocity a bullet travels that a balloon would be able to stretch as much as the last one is on the exit, before it ruptured.
it looks like a handgun bullet, possibly 9mm or 45ACP.... so it's only 800-950ft/sec or so.... I estimate the three ballons to take up 3 feet, so that's just about 4 miliseconds from the time the bullet punctured the orange ballon to when the pictured frame is.
My Grandfather worked with him. We have some originals.
Gotta take into account that the bullet is hitting water as well, and is slowing down significantly. Still cool as shit to see, though.
I can never remember how to spell his name correctly, but he truly was a photographic genius. Coming up with a camera that could successfully capture the first few milliseconds of an atomic explosion, in 1945 is incredible. Not to mention all of his other strobe photography work.
Anything you have that wouldn't be in any of his galleries?
This one is pretty fuckin' awesome. Would love to see it in person.
i'm going to try to get some equipment to do this... i'll make a thread and be sure to question what you want me to blow up.
I think a watermelon is an obvious choice. As would be a tv/monitor.
Propane can and a tracer?
I haven't taken any high-speed footage, but I have shot some of those camping propane cans and it's lame.
They don't do much without a flame, either a candle on the side or a tracer.
Stupid fucking kids, but it shows how big of a fireball one of those little tanks can do: http://youtube.com/watch?v=yKTrKY_hDMo
