So I went to my first Practical Rifle match yesterday up in Portland. I used my 10.5" LMT with some 55gr PMC bronze and 30 round C-Products. It ran like a sewing machine, even with the mags being covered in mud. I was a bit apprehensive using this because of the longer range stages but I calculated my trajectory the night before so I had an idea about my holdovers at longer ranges. I was actually able to aim only about an inch or two over the LaRue targets and knock 'em down at 250 yards.

It rained the ENTIRE day and at the end me and my buddy were soaked all the way through and covered in mud. I think I finished 5th in the iron sight division out of maybe 15 people and 35th out of about 60 people overall.

LaRue targets at ~250 yards. Those things were pretty badass.

Cliffs: Practical Rifle match, now I'm fucking addicted.

  3. God Damn! That looks like fun! I wish the only rifle matches around here weren't 2+ hours away. How many rounds did you guys go through?

It's an hour and a half for me, but it was worth it :o Especially if you get a friend to go and split gas or whatever.

It was a pretty low round count. Typically they go through ~120-150 but yesterday was only about 90 rounds with no misses, I went though about 120, however.

  5. Where in OR are you? Where was the match?

You should do it! They have a sniper match about once or twice a year and do sniper classes as well. Also the threegun match is coming up in May I think.

They are constantly mining out of the range so the landscape is different every month. Differnt people set up the stages too and they range from 5 yards to 300 yards. I'm told they do door breaching stages and other stuff like that.

  10. Let me know when they schedule another practical rifle match and I just might drive down for it.

I believe it's the second Saturday of every month. I'm gonna try and make it next month providing my schedule allows. Hopefully it will be a little drier

I'll send ya a PM when it gets a little closer. Entry fee is $15 but it goes from 9:30AM-2 or 3PM

Yep, on an ultimac rail. I don't think it was too happy with it, the first stage he got a raindrop on the lens and the dot got all fucked up. He also shot an AR with a Leupold CQT and got a bit better time. The 1-4x helped out a lot on the longer stages.

It's a Helly Hansen jacket an ex girlfriend got me. It was waaaaaaay on sale for about $30 bucks a couple years ago. It's no technically waterproof but was warm and held out the water for the better part of the day.

It just came out of the washing machine and I couldn't find a model name or anything :hs: sorry

no problem, i dont think they make anything like that anymore because i've been looking at some HH stuff.

i think i'm going to get a gortex army surplus jacket to beat on like that.

Yeah it's a work jacket, so it holds up pretty well.

Good call, those guns are decent but a good home build will be 100% nicer. Dpixle8 is sending my tools back pretty soon I think, and you're welcome to borrow them if you want. My rivet swisher makes the riveting really easy and they turn out nice if you do it right.
