i just figured dress blues was an air force thing... thought it was dress greens for the army, and dress multi-colored thingies for the marines.

The Army has so many different dress uniforms. Ceremonial Dress Blue, Personal Dress Blue, but a different Dress Blue for Officers and Enlisted. Then there is Mess Dress White. And finally the Class A, also known as the pickle suit. And then you go into formal and semi-formal.

I laugh when ever I hear a Airman bitching about how long it takes to put his dress blues together. It takes no more than 5 minutes to place everything on the Air Force Dress uniform. It can take up to 30+ minutes to get the Army Class A uniform right. And during inspections the inspecting officer, or CSM, while break out a ruler and measure every single last thing on your uniform. It's a serious undertaking to put your dress uniform together.

I'll be taking a flag to my grandfather's headstone on Monday. Some group (Legion? AmVets? Boy Scouts?) usually puts flags on all veterans' headstones, but I like to put one down too :hs:

Oh, got any idea on how to clean up the headstones? His is like 50 years old now and doesn't look too good any more. We've tried to clean it up before but haven't had much luck with a mild soap and scrubbrush.. Don't want to use anything too harsh cuz we don't want to kill the grass around it.

Difference between the Air Force and Army/Marines is you continue being scrutinized in uniform with rulers and white gloves through out your career as a soldier or marine. The Air Force is a joke when it comes to knowing and enforcing standards of dress and appearance. But that is for another thread.

everyone in those photos has never been deployed, this is their first unit. They are Old Guard Babies, thats how we like to call them. this unit had its first deployment last year since Vietnam and it was only one company which went to the Horn of Africa. our job is to defend the capitol area, so while the rest of the army is fighting abroad, they can come back to d.c. being in one peice
