Maverick 88, made by mossberg. I was a bit iffy paying $137 brand new for a gun, but it seems ok so far. Hopefully it holds up :noes:

Anyone else have one of these?

Got a mossy but not the maverick, I got a 590, I think the mavericks based off the 500, which is what the 590 is based off of. Sounds like you got a good deal I've seen them for $150+ in local shops

If I remember right, the Maverick was a different brand that Mossberg bought and marketed as the 88.

I can't really remember though, I have CRS.

The Maverick 88 and Mossberg 500 are nearly identical with exception to the location of the safety and the fore-end.

Prolly right thinking about it now my friends got one and tried to put a couple 500 accessories on it and it was a no go.
Either way nice cheap buy for a HD gun.

The barrels are differant. You can't use a Mossberg 500 barrel on a Maverick 88. As for magazine extensions you can't even use them on Mossberg 500s. You have to replace the whole barrel and magazine tube. Overall it's a cool gun, though. You can still change the buttstock and forend if you want. The location of the safety is actually a bit of a bonus on the Maverick. It's a bitch to reach on the Moosberg with certain stocks on it.

Someone on SGW replaced the tang safety with the Maverick safety, a mod I'm considering.

That can't be too hard. The trigger housings can be swapped can't they?

I hadn't researched it in that much depth. Still got a ways to go on my Mossberg.

Same here. There's a lot of stuff I want to do to mine. It's just hard to justify spending money on such a cheapass gun. I'll probably just get a pistol grip for it and leave it at that. If I don't like shooting it with the pistol grip then I'll just get a better stock for it. I really want a 20" barrel with a 7 round magazine tube but I've been having trouble finding one.

Cheap, reliable, and recommended. Not a bad choice. I've got more in parts than I do in the gun, still tinkering with it.

I've read that the barrels are the same, and looking at 500 barrels at the store it looks that way.

    :dunno: for sure though
