    A little backstory on this......

For Christmas I got a $100 giftcard to BassPro from my dad, $50 cash from
my uncle, and a $50 Visa gift card from my cousin. Dad had told my mom
that the $100 would be good for going to the range.....

Unfortunately, dad died last Friday :wtc:

So I decided that I didn't want to feed his last gift to me into a dirt pile (range
time) and decided to put together my cash/giftcards and pick up something
that I could keep around a while. I've been wanting a good, cheap shotgun
for some time now. A little had to come out of my own pocket but whatever.

I'm not a big fan of wood, but I know dad is, so I happily opted for the
laminated stock and look forward to keeping this gun for a long time and
maybe passing it along later in life.

That said, here's my new Remington 870 :)

Sorry to hear about your dad man. Of all the things my dad owns I think going through his firearms would make me the most emotional.

Dad has a small collection, my brother was overly eager to raid dad's gun
safe, he got slapped down by mom pretty bad. There's nothing in his collection
I MUST have, for the time being, they belong to mom and that's fine by me.

Sorry to hear about your dad, but I've been looking to pick up an 870 as well. How much did you lay down for it? I've been eyeing the all-synthetic ones. :coold:

Me and dad didn't spend a lot of time shooting, it was more a hobby I picked
    up on my own.

Now, his tools....yeah, there's some history.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I hate hearing things like this. :wtc:

My father, who is about the worst diabetic I've ever met in my life when it comes to taking care of themselves, has recently started traveling all over the country in the past few years for his job. Well, before he started, he completely stripped all of his guns for a detail cleaning, took detailed pics of every one and their serial numbers, catalogged everything about them, and then locked them back in the safe.

He then proceeded to give me one of those dreaded, 'If for some reason I die...' stories, that every one of us hates to hear, telling me all the details of how to keep track of all his guns.

    BTW, great looking gun. :naughty:

Nice gun! A 870 will last a lifetime. Seriously.... Is it a Wingmaster? What length barrel? 24"?

Make sure you cherish that thing properly. You should plan to never sell it, lose it, or give it to anyone.

    That was the idea :)

I prefer to think he's now free of the cancer, chemo, drugs and so on, it helps
    keep things positive.

I'm told he was happy to hear he was also suffering from congestive heart
failure...he really didn't like what the cancer was doing to him and feared
what would happen to him as time went on. He also didn't want to be a
    burden to my mom.....

Yeah it's going to be well used and well maintained. It is 24", don't think it's
a wingmaster.....or at least I've seen no material or markings indicating such
    a thing.....

My 870 is awesome. I've dropped it in the levee, hunted all day in the rain and mud and cold, and never once has I ever had a problem. Take it home, clean it, oil it, brand new gun.

My condolences about your dad. Mine bought me my 870 when I was 12. 15 years of flawless performance.
