You guys already saw the first pic I posted. This is the pic she chose. After a little photoshopping here is the final product. Later I'll see if I can post a shot of the lighting setup I used.

Expression and lighting is much better than the first. She made a good choice. Only nitpick I have the BG light. It's a bit too strong and is the first thing I'm drawn to.

  3. great shot & pose

The eyes are nice and sharp but the rest of the pp is alittle off IMO. Care to post an unedited version?

Good point, the background light could be a stop or two dimmer but I kind of like it the way it is.

The skin and hair was softened in PS but the eyes and lips were left untouched. I'll have to get a copy of the original from our graphics guy (who did the PS work) I don't have one on my computer.

I like the pic but the background blends in a lot with her chin/jaw area.

how do you soften the skin in PS?

the softening makes her right eye look out of focus, or something weird.

but what the fuck do I know

  9. Looks like the graphics guy just added a layer with gassian blur and erased the blurred area around the eyes and lips. Looks like a 2 minute edit job. Hope he didn't want any monays.

Close. He used a mask around the eyes and lips then added the gassian blur and erased the edges. That didn't take very long but he also did a number of other "fixes", some that I wanted and some that my daughter wanted. He spent about 1/2 hour on the pic.

Here's the original so you can compare.

you need to have your graphix guy run USM on her eyes. They appear on the soft side. Her hair also looks very soft around the edges which is going to look odd when it's printed. Was it darkened on purpose?

I'm beginning to hate PS and post-processing. There was nothing wrong with the original and comparing the two *now* I see the "final" version is out of focus and bland. "Softening" sucks (IMO, and not just on this picture).

softening sucks when it's done incorrectly, or overdone. But, if done properly you wouldn't even be able to tell....

yes, my daughter wanted her hair to appear darker. I had our graphics guy soften the edges of her hair to take out some stray hairs.

I don't know what program he's using, but, if it's Photoshop he needs to use the clone tool with 100% hardness... other wise it's going to look funky on print.

I really like the shot. Good expression and pose. My only criticism would be that the skin softening is a little over done. Other than that, great pic.

I'll take this down immediately if you want me to... and I normally don't do this unless I ask first, but I couldn't help myself this time.
The background is a little rushed, but if I had a full res shot, and some more time, I could probably even it out a bit better.
    mine on top....

Not bad. Now fix the wrinkle in her neck, the bump on her shoulder and the darkness under her right eye. :x:

I agree that the skin softening in the final print may be a bit too much but she likes it.

Good comments people. That's how we learn in this business.

let us know how the print comes out? I have a feeling that her hair is going to be one giant brown blob at the bottom.

But honestly, if you'd like me to, I can re-do it. Just send me the full rez.

Thanks I appreciate it. She's getting her prints made today so I should see them in a day or two. If the prints don't come out right I may take you up on your offer.

ITW post pro. is def. :coold: compared to the other one. It would take 3 seconds to remove the bra strap, and fix the neck, and eye.

I'm with you ... I like the original more than the softened one ... I'd soften a portrait if the person was older but she is young enough not to have to worry
