It seems i physically cannot do front squats with my elbows out in front for some reason

probably my lack of wrist flexibility and generally weak wrists overall

i cannot get my wrists/fingers to bend back while the bar is on my delts...any fixes for this or am i just stuck with crossing?

i had this problem for awhile, i just started out using only two fingers (middle and pointer) and eventually my wrist flexibility went up so i can use all fingers (cept thumb) now. stretching wrist and pushing elbow "up" helped too, just keep doing that even if you aren't front squating in clean grip yet. i think eventually you'll be able to do it, i cross gripped for a solid 3 months before doing clean grip

In the same boat, even with an unloaded bar. I can't get my arms to bend that close together and/or my wrists to go down low enough.

Why do people do front squats instead of regular squats? Bar discomfort? Is there a muscular reason for it?

I've been working on this as I clean the bar.

I'll get a weight I can handle easily on the clean .. clean it, the drop into a front squat. I'm getting to the point where I can catch it fairly well now, and if you use a light enough weight you can just muscle it into position if you miss.

I meant I typically do what you would refer to as a power clean where you dont get under the bar ... trying to transition to where I can do a full clean w/ front squat
