...is mofo HARD!!! trying to do a tutorial on turning a pic into vector art. so hard. tracing shapes is hard enough, then how do exactly do you pick colors for the skin?? i have no sense on which part should be darker and which part should be lighter, and what shade of tan to use. any tips?

I find it easier to do in Illustrator but I guess it's the same idea..

As for picking colors for the skin, just use the eye dropper tool. If you take samples from the skin and use those throughout the skin, you'll get a more realistic color. Oh, and for the light areas and the dark areas, just go by what's in the picture you are tracing...

It looks better if you take the time to do it yourself

If you're a pixel peeper, of course. I run everything at at max 5-6 inches on newsprint so it works for me + usually has to be done in an hour ago so time is a factor too.

When picking the colors for the skin I posterize the image in Photoshop first. Set it to about a 3-5. Then choose those colors for my skin tone
