Ok guys, my work has elevated alot in the past couple years, and i havent updated my ImageVuex site since 08. So its time for a change.

I plan on building a new page based on a blog. I think with the type of work that i do its just better suited for me. I will still have the portfolio page, but it will be my core portfolio shots with my blog supplementing my recent work.

So with that being said, i need a place to store these files as well as show them off. I would like to be able to sell prints as well, and have custom galleries for client view with password.

I have a couple friends who use photoshelter, and love it. I would get their standard 29.99/m account, that includes SEO, 25GB of storage and i think unlimited bandwidth. But I know Joey uses Smugmug and really likes it, so maybe you can chime in :)

Im completely new to smugmug or Exposure manager, so let me know what you guys are using.

I plan on using a Graph Paper Press theme, just becaus ei liek their modules and the clean look.

    Thoughts?

Yes. I do love smugmug. It's great. Easy to export to it straight from lightroom.

I really like being able to upload an image and it automatically watermarks it for me (you just have to upload a .png of your watermark one time in the beginning).

You can control all the things you mentioned (custom galleries, password protected, smugmug also has coupons so you can let certain people buy at cost).

I'm extremely happy with it, but its just a bit expensive. Thats my only complaint (once a year), but then I forget about it and love it the other 364 days :bigok:

If you do sign up, shoot me a msg and I'll give you my coupon code :bigok:

It does let you do an album in the "journal" style which is pretty much like a blog. I used it this past summer when I studied abroad as a photo blog.

It worked very well, but I prefer my new wordpress blog over it.

I pay for the pro level one (about $120 per year). the pro one is the only one that allows you to sell prints.

yeah this is what i was worried about. I want something in an one stop shop. I hate logging into so many different things (currently because of my lkaziness, i havent made a blog entry in forever) , in addition i think Photoshelter helps you with enhancing traffic to your site and blog.

Maybe im just sippin the kool-aid but their platform just seems so integrated.

IMO, smugmug is really unprofessional looking. It's sorta ugly, and the stupid smiley face logo is worse than the crumpler logo

Photoshelter is the way to go. Perfect integration with GPP too

You can upload straight from photo mechanic to photoshelter, have a gallery of 20 images online in less than 2 mins. What I love is that you can keep them private, and send invites to certain emails.

So say I do a shoot for Client A, and we negotiated 5 images for XXX price. You can send them a private link, set how many downloads you allow (After they dl 5, it won't let them dl anymore), and have it expire on whatever date you want.

just looked at your site, any reason you decided to keep the blog off your PS page? I was thinking of having it all in one. With galleries as a link.

hmmmm. Its soo hard to make this decision. damn it...

What print house does Smugmug use, do you like the prints, joey?

I know they use BayPhoto now, while photoshelter uses Adorama and Exposure Manager.

I haven't looked into it enough. I'm not 100% sure I'm staying with myfotojournal yet (I've heard rumblings of making it a pay site only), so I didn't want to commit to anything until that's worked out.

    Do you find Photoshelter fast?

How are you handling email and domain forwarding, since you dont have a traditional webhost anymore?

Thanks for answering my questions guys, i want to do it right this time. When i first started my site i wasnt a dedicated working photog, now that i am, im tryign to do it right from the get go.

Correct. Most users of that would probably be providing prints to family members.. Not a professional...
Unless you want to mark up prices for your family like some OTAPer slimeball
