I'm looking to spend about 300 ish on a new cam. I've done a little photography with a Nikon D70 and thoroughly enjoyed it, but I'm not ready to make that big a jump yet. Could someone recommend me a camera with some fairly advanced features? Manual zoom would be a must for me, and I'd prefer image stabilization. Thanks for the help.

you're talking about a DSLR, correct? I don't know of any P&S cameras with manual zoom.

I think you might be able to pick up a D50 for around $400, give or take 20 bucks

Just the body, or with the lens? I could deal with a point and shoot. A DSLR woud be nice though.

Have you looked at a canon s3? Its like 1 step below an entry level dslr, not sure if nikon has a counterpart they probably do.

Why waste the money if youre just going to want to get a dslr anyways. It's pointless you. A p+s wont ever have the same feel or potential as a dslr. You will just grow to hate it.

measurebator. ISO 64 on a tiny sensor is probably noise-comparable to your iso200.

    Okay.. dumbass question warning alert:

If these DSLR cams are like 2-4 megapixels behind the Point and shoots, won't the point and shoots look better picture wise? What does a higher megapixel do for you anyway?

Higher megapixel count meerly increases the amount of data you capture, it does not increase the quality. It's unlikely they will look better, because the sensors are far smaller, to make the camera so called 'compact', and as a result quality is sacraficed.

Checking out the P5000 and now I'm stuck between it and the S3.

Potaytoe potahto...the S3 has much longer Zoom... the P5000 has 10MP... they both have thier strengths and weaknesses. It would be a pretty tough call for me too. I tend to be biased towards Nikon though...

A710 IS. Nice camera, good controls, good zoom, nice size. Or drop for a S3 which I think too you can get IS or it comes with IS.
