So next semester I'll be taking a photography course, and they said they will provide 35mm cameras, but we are welcome to using our own if we choose. I'm thinking I might get one so I'm not limited to they cameras they will give us. I assume they won't be amazing cameras. Could any one recommend a decent 35mm camera that isn't too expensive? Thanks

Do you have a DSLR now? If so, buy one that can share lenses with your system.

I've already got a Canon DSLR, and I'm trying to learn more about photography. The class is taught using a 35mm (probably because we'll more than likely be developing out own film). I don't really have much of a budget, I'm just looking for an estimated cost if I purchased my own.

Depending on what lenses you have for your Canon DSLR, buy a cheap older Canon EOS film camera.

What lenses do you have for your DSLR?

The 50 f/1.8 will work on an EOS film, the 18-55 will not due to the fact that its an EF-s. Buy an EOS film. :bigthumb:

That's a good point. If I could interchange my lens from my DSLR to a standard SLR camera, that would be awesome. I'll look for an EOS SLR.

Canon EOS Elan 2e is pretty cheep and more than enough while still being solid and having both manual and auto features.

i'm taking a course this semester too. i wanted to pick up a nikon body that i could use my lenses with, but my popps had a canon ae-1 with a 28-80 lens, so I'm just going to use that instead and save myself the money :dunno:

I would second the Pentax K1000. A friend of mine shot a wedding with a K1000 (used me as back up with my camera gear). The battery for the light meter had leaked so the light meter didn't work for quite some time (camera at the time was probably 20+ years old). She shot the wedding and got some great pics. It probably helped she was shooting black and white which I hear is much more forgiving.

I already have Nikon gear (35mm and DSLR) but if I had to go with a basic 35mm for photography classes, I think I would seriously check the K1000. They are usually cheap and seem solidly built.

So my mom was an artist and did some photography, but I had no idea that my grandfather was an actual photographer. Unfortunately, he passed away when I was too young to really remember him. But my dad told me that he's got a Nikon and Pentax body with multiple lenses for them. He said that he actually gave away his light room setup to a neighbor a long time ago. But my dad said that I can use them all I want. I'll find out what it's got and I'll let everyone know!
