what are the larger photography associations/groups out there? Anyone here a member of one?

In my current industry, I think I'm a member of around 10 organizations, and I get quite a bit out of them. Looking into joining a photography organization of some sort if possible (and if it's worth it).

what are some of the better ones?

How did you know i was in omaha!?!?!? :fawk:

I couldnt' find anything in omaha, and the one nebraska assn i found holds their meetings in western nebraska (a good 6hr drive ... forget that).

PPA looks interesting - i'll probably give them a closer look. are they the biggest out there?

    ASMP - awesome
    NPPA - decent
    PPA - complete joke
WPPI - only worth it if you go to the convention
    WPPJ - complete joke

ASMP is just a great organization in general, they fight for the rights of photographers, protect photographers etc.

ASMP and NPPA are meant for pros so the hobbyist may not get as much out of it as they would pay into, but what they do and provide is 2nd to none.

WPPI convention is for wed and portrait photographers mainly, its a tradeshow, workshops and seminars all in one. The best of the best are there to hang out with and party at night. You get to see the best products in the industry, talk with reps, learn from other photographers etc.

We're going next year for sure. You can go without the membership but its higher priced, haven't done the math to see if it pays for itself or not yet though
