Hmm first off its a long course. Considering I started from basic so far I've been going for over 14months straight with training. I still have 5 weeks for Phase IV and either 4 or 6months for language school left. In the end for me its going to almost be 2yrs. For some people it is over 2yrs. There are tough times for sure. Doing the STAR land nav course at SFAS in temps ranging from 0-15F. 1SG said it was the coldest STAR they ever had out there. Thankfully there was no snow. SERE school I barely ate for 6days. That kind of sucked. Fucking up my heels so that they were raw and having to continue land naving and do a 6mile ruck march during SOPC I tested me pretty hard. Having to maintain academic proficiency in MOS training proved difficult for some.

The only advice I'll give is don't quit and make sure this is what you want.

Have you found out what your language is going to be yet, or do they wait until you actually finish SFQC before assigning it?

Yes I did take the 18X contract. My mos is 18C. SF Engineer.

Good luck in a few yrs. The officers go through a selection process that is a bit harder. You probably know but the officers typically only stay with a team for 2yrs before they leave and go to an operations job. Because of this, the NCOs and Team SGT pretty much run the show in the ODA.

We'll find out our group and language at the completion of Phase IV. Currently they let tell you this after you this along with your MOS once you complete SFAS.

Thanks guys... Going to have to keep my shit wired tight. I know they're trying to cut people from the class because there are too many going right now. From what I hear its all very cadre dependant on how the experience is out there. I'm hoping our team ends up with some good cadre. There are a few out there that like to make life a living hell.

Do you go to DLIFLC for language? If so, 1) it will be a lot longer than 4-6 months (unless you get Spanish) and 2) I'm there.

They teach language here on Fort Bragg and they have a few being taught at Ft. Lewis. Its no where near like DLI. Spanish, French, German and Indonesian are 4months as far as i know. Everything else is 6months.

I am at "regular" engineer school right now at ft leonardwood

did you get to choose which MOS you wanted or was it determined from your testing?

yeah i heard about the 2 years with a team and then i am off...it really sucks but i have a plan for that...hopefully my body holds up for the execution of it :o

    again goodluck :bigthumb:

My preferences were 18B, 18C, 18D, 18E. I got 18C due to test scores. The dumbest guys end up with 18B. I'm glad I got 18C. You learn alot more including Mission planning which only the 18A-Officers get. None of the other MOS's cover it.

    Thanks!
