GUN pest control in my small suburban yard?

Discussion in 'On Topic' started by Jimmy Jockstrap, Jun 21, 2007.

  1. What could I use for pest control, eg. birds, ferals, etc.

Crossbow, air rifle, 22 dipped in a bucket of water(I heard this has a silencing affect) or into a pillow, regular bow?

I cant use a shotgun or something loud I dont want to draw attention to myself.

i'd use an air rifle, plus I'd make sure you know whats behind your target if you are in a place where you don't want a loud bang

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago to kill a bunch of birds that were shitting all over everything at my house. It's done a wonderful job. Accurate as hell, and quiet too. The RWS hollowpoint pellets I get really make those fuckers bleed........bad. The blood everywhere is becoming as much of a probably as the birdshit was. lol

I'm eventually gonna try some of those polymer tipped Predators.

BTW, If I had to do it over again, I'd go with the regular Shadow 1000 w/ scope. The light and laser on this one really isn't necessary; though it is extremely fun.

Pawn shop .22 bolt action with CB rounds (quiet as a pellet gun) or shotshells (not too loud).

If it is just one shot you can usually get a regular .22 round off and most people wont know what it is. Plus with a .22 is more fun for a plinker at the range than the pellet gun would be.

I third the 22LR CB long.

  13. Ill probably go the regular bow because all these fancy air rifles will look TOO MEAN for most aussies who probably think they are something they are not?

Do you shoot anything apart from that double shotgun btw? Do you have a recommended best place to buy shotguns(double or lever) in South east Qld?

I was planning to get a lever action but I heard they are quite expensive and malfunction easy. It would be cool if you could post in my other threads because you would have a better idea of Aussie restrictions than the americans.

What about a slingshot, any1 know cool styles of slingshot?

Another thing I forgot to mention. Blowguns. I had one when I was a kid and they are wicked accurate at short range (25-30ft). I could nail a paintball from 30ft. away time after time. No sights, just from shooting it so damn much I knew where to point it. Doesn't get much quieter than that.
