Personal Trainer ripping apart my routine for the GF

    Using the stumptuous girls weight lifting website, and what has been said in the past here about womens weight training, i wrote up a routine for my gf. Basically it was a standard all around weights program, in a 3 day split, legs, arms, back from memory.. the other 2 days she would do cardio and/or spin classes with her friend...

    mostly each lift would be 3x10, and it was usually 5 or 6 exercises each day, with around 80% of her maximum (well, by maximum i mean an estimate as to what she COULD lift if she believed in herself )..


    anyhow - her friend recently booked a session with one of the gyms young PT's (because she wants to date him :greddy: ) and he has said that they were doing it all wrong! He said to them, "basically doing those low reps with weight will make you get big, but if you girls want to TONE and look better, you should be doing high reps with low weight!"

    I tried to explain to the gf , but all she could say was 'i mean he went to university and everything, he is a professional!'

    SOMEBODY please help me out here, tell me how i can explain to my gf in LAMENS terms that what the guy was telling her isnt necessarily the case...

    i've had extremely large arguments over the gym and my gf - im not going to get involved in this other than to explain to her WHY the routine says what it does..

    basically she made me feel like a complete idiot, and obviously her friend and the ' PT ' would be thinking the same thing , and that doesnt make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside :hs:

    that first link edmang posted is clutch

    'Don’t be afraid of using heavy weights.'

    Then she suggests a 4 day split with 6-12 reps. Show that to your gf and tell her friend that that PT is a fag.

    yeah i sent her a chopped up versioin with points from those articles.. but i wonder if they will have the guts to bring it up with the 'PT'

    go tell the PT that you want your bitch to be ripped, and theaten popping an animal pak in front of him if he tries to get your woman any more "toned"

    Man fuck that guy. You should ditch your girlfriend, because well... Im not gonna dis your girlfriend. You should also pitch that guy some articles and make him look like a dumb ass.

    Just print all those articles out and be like look "girlfriend" all this documentation right here proves that your "PT" is a dumb ass and doesnt know what hes talking about. IF you arent too lazy to read it you'll find out that IM the one who is right, NOT him.

    I'd just let your gf do whatever in the gym. Gym time is your time, if she wants to waste hers let her. Unless she's fat, can't stand fat chicks...

    ask her to get the PT to explain why high reps low weight is better for 'toning' as compared high weight low rep (not that 10 reps in low rep anyhow).

    He'll probably just give her a :dunno: or at best a "cause i read it somehwere"

    On a side note, up here, just cause your a PT doesn't mean you went to unovserity for it. All you need to do is pass a test and your in. Hell one of the PT's at my gym only formal education was at acting school :rolleyes:
