    this machine has a few things better than what i ordered and a couple things worse. in the end ive decided to hang onto this one
    and work paid for this machine

    Where's Jolly to lower your self asteem when it comes to computers when you need him...

    Anyway... DO NOT USE RAID-0. Period. End of Story.

    If you only have one drive, you can't use RAID anyway so I'm not sure what you're asking. Buy another 160 Gig drive and run RAID-1

    i thought raid1 doesnt help with performance?

    You can go to other RAID levels, but based on the fact that you haven't got a clue about any of this, you're not running anything that would cause a massive performance problem at the HD level.
