So they playoffs are starting this weekend for DIII, the guy I shoot for just sent me a copy of the contract he had to sign to shoot for the playoffs. It is a contract with the NCAA and it seems super restricting, I'm not sure if it is the same contract everyone has to sign but I've got a quick question about it.

It states, " Photographs taken at NCAA championship event cannot be used in any way to market or advertise the services of licensed photographer."

That basically means I can't use any images from that game for a portfolio eh?

It's means you'd better be making some money or damn good exposure for this.

Hmmmm, I've seen a lot of contracts that state that you can't profit from the use of those pictures, but not that you can't use them to promote yourself (I guess you could consider promotion a future profit generator).

College athletics are tricky and it has to do with NCAA rules about athletes not being able to profit from their actions.

The school on the other hand can use those images to make a profit (slap them in calendars, on mugs, etc).

Anyway, having said all of that, I still sell prints off my website (mostly to the parents). They've fussed at me a few times, but they don't enforce it too strictly so meh...
