I'm worried I'm eating too late, and not maximizing my cut. I lift after work, then I'm ravenously hungry of course and eat lots of protein, and a healthy serving of complex carbs.

Any thoughts on changing this up?

I've been thinking about going to the other extreme and doing a protein shake / suppliment, then watchin TV for a couple hours and going to bed.

I normally lift between 5:30-6:30. Workouts about an hour. I usually just have a shake after working out. After the shake is down start preparing dinner and usually takes 45-60 minutes to make dinner. Dinner is usually veggie, protein (chicken or fish but sometimes pork loin), and rice/sweet potato/regular potato.

    Workout around 6 or 6:30.

    Protein shake immediately after.

"Dinner" when I get home from the gym (I have a long commute) around 8 or 9.

i don't see how the time of day is relevant, you do exactly the same thing that would do if you lifted in the morning.

reminds of this one time there is this semi retarded black dude- he was eating a rotissere chicken while working out
it was actually kinda gross, cuz he would eat with his hands, then suck them clean and then with a napkin, then do a set

he also wears aviator glasses while working out, and does db preacher curls too much, and does them wrong too

best part was it was one of those whole chickens you get at a supermarket cooked whole- and the food was in a supermarket shopping bag, which he carried around.

it got me really hungry too

yea i have this problem too sometimes. i would sometimes have dinner first at about 630, then lift at 8-9. when done at 10-11, i usually don't have meals after since i sleep at 1130ish, though i do have a shake right after lifiting.

i guess just have a light meal an hour or so before your lift, then have a late dinner after the lift.

I'm more worried about carb intake that late in the day. Time of day may not matter for protein intake, but it does for carb intake.

    +1.

Regardless of time of day/night your body still needs those postworkout carbs/protein. If you are skipping carbs after a workout because it is late you are only hurting yourself.

Sometimes I lift early, mid afternoon, and sometimes late as well. 2-3 days a week I am in the gym after 8pm and don't get out until 10 or 11. When I finish my workout I pound a protein shake before showering. When I get home I usually eat a small portion of simply carbs (half a cup of white rice, couple slices white bread, 2oz pasta, small baked potato, etc..) and pair with a good source of protein like lean ground beef, chicken, tuna, etc...

    No. Read the nutrition EDU.
What matters in order is :
    1) Total amount
    2) Timing with exercise

A simple solution would be to eat veggies/fruits anytime (although limiting yourself to no more than 2 pieces of fruit maybe) and eating any other carb around your workouts.

would lifting later on in the day be better ? You'd have eaten alot more calories than someone who drinks their shake in the morning and lifts.

i only lift when the moon is at perigee, the additional gravitational pull makes my workouts much more effective.
