$100 store credit
That really is classy. You would NEVER see Sony, Microsoft, Dell or any of the other thousands of tech companies doing something like this.
Apple marks up everything so in reality that is worth like $20 to them. Not only that but I am sure they hope people spend over that $100 which it is hard not to spend that at the Apple store.
Don't get me wrong I'll take the $100, but I would rather have the cash.
yet another reason why i love apple
all a marketing ploy that was thought up before the price change anyway
I think it was an awesome gesture, however Apple did still profit from it. My brother paid $650 total for his iPhone. The iPhone is now $399 + tax (~440), so if you subtract 100 from 650, it's 550, so they still made a profit of about 110. I told my sister, that she should try to return her iPhone she got last week to get full refund because of Apple's 2 week policy to get her money back, then buy another one and save money. But now that I think of it, because it's tied in with ATT, she probably can't return it because of her contract
So, you work in Apple marketing?
No? Didn't think so.
if you got the iphone within 2 weeks, just call up apple and they will give you a full $200 refund.. if you got the iphone before apple's official return policy, you will get a $100 store credit.
idk, it makes sense to me, and i think it was a nice move by apple, planned out or not.
they do this because people usually end up spending more than the store credit, resulting in even more profits.
I don't need to do that to figure out the fucking obvious
Yea, "Here's some money for you to turn around and give back to us."
IMO it was nice of them to do, but come on. All those people had perfectly working phones for those 2 months and they had them first. They had nothing to bitch about in the first place.
TRUTH dot MOTHERFUCKING ORG
they gave you back 50% of the profit, which you will use in the store and more than likely spend more money with
is moves more units for apple
I wasn't bitching in the first place. In fact, I've posted here in Mac Shack about it and said I didn't have a problem with the price drop.
But still it's a helluva thing for a company to basically give away ~$75,000,000 in gratis rebates without being sued over it.
@ software engineer that thinks he knows how marketing works.
I'm sure old Steve just whipped out the checkbook and wrote a personal check for $75m to cover the rebate. If you think this rebate isn't going to sting for Apple, then you're a MAJOR fucking moron.
you fucking dolt
they made $150,000,000-$200,000,000 in profit from the marked up price
they give 1/2 back
they get people in teh store and they spend extra money on top of the $100 rebate. apple moves more units and makes more money
you are the fucking moron
you fail at understanding sales
yeah, somehow they had the vouchers in the stores <24 hours after the price reduction
$100 store credit. This show how genius and evil Apple can be. They look like angels but in fact people -who get this credit- will end up spending more money.
Yeah I mean it's nice but this is pure genius marketing at work here. People will spend more than that, or not use it at all.
I'd reckon to say they make money off of this.
I think its awesome of them to do. The price drop kinda bothered me. I understand the price of the iPhone will go down, that is a given, I knew that when I bought mine the first week it was out. But $200 after 2 months is a little much. So i'll take the $100 and buy a bluetooth headset
Whatever helps you sleep, kid. I would normally type out a reply about how you really don't understand business, but I just don't feel like arguing with a retarded troll over the internet tonight.
However, I can see why you think it might work that way, but that's just from your perspective as someone who has 0 experience in business strategy and marketing. Kind of like me telling you how to create software.
Oh, BTW, the rebate doesn't actually go out until next week, so I don't know where you are getting this "vouchers in the store in <24 hours" bullshit from.
they're in the store already? news to me, and everyone else...
Check the reviews on it. I was thinking about getting it too, but alot of complaints on static.
For me I will be getting the 160gb iPod Classic in black.
