Long story short I'm out of town, only have 25lb and 35lb DBs, get bored of lifting in my hotel room and search the net for a ymca.

I find only one nearby (im in a pretty normal-sized city, I don't understand..) and drive over to find it in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. :ugh:

Some 12 year old at the counter takes my 8 year-old expired membership card without even looking and doesn't even bother to put down her Razr while she goes: "ok have fun bye thanks!" and continues to chat. :squint:

I go in the back, and I'm greeted by basically a prison yard setup... Rusty ass bar, torn seatcovers on most of the benches etc...

So, naturally when there's no squat rack/box I just go with the flow...
    When in rome... :wiggle:

    Incline Bench... errr... Squat Box?:

    Dip/Pullup Station... errr... Squat Rack?:

YMCA in houston texas is a first class facility. Two stories, smoothie king inside, 30+ elypticals(sp?)+treadmills and a full auxillary/free weight section. Great deal considering we won our membership as well! it all depends on the town.

not ideal, a bit ghetto looking- still its better than most hotel gyms.

though have to say that using a dip station as a squat rack is probably dangerous.

    :eek3:

    its very dangerous

the two handlebars for the dip station are too close together to balance the weights while loading. Unless you load both sides simultaneously, one side is going to hit the floor and you're going to get a barbell going airborne.

This may or may not have happened in my gym. I may or may not have laughed.

in the modern age of lawsuits and such, I don't know how you could let the general public train there.

    Psssshhh..

    Rookies...

What you do, is grab two of the biggest weights you're not gonna be using, then load them over the vertical handle on the dip station to steady the bar.

Then load it, then remove the weights.

But remember to save em for unloading...

Guess a lot of you never had 'yardsale' gyms.... Must be nice...

    ;)
