MIL PENTAGON Loses Bush's Military Records

Discussion in 'On Topic' started by Stephen Cronin, Jul 13, 2004.

"HOUSTON, July 8 - Military records that could help establish President Bush's whereabouts during his disputed service in the Texas Air National Guard more than 30 years ago have been inadvertently destroyed, according to the Pentagon."

Now you see... that's really hillarious, as Leno puts it... "the one record that could have declared our president a war hero... was lost!!"

Sounds like they organize files like me... whoops!

Seriously, does anyone really care? Wasn't this horse beat to death months ago? So Bush gets out of fighting the easy way, Kerry goes and does some great things - then comes home, gets taken up in the hippie movement, and acts like a jerk for a while. Does anyone seriously still care about this stuff? Shouldn't we be more worried about more current events?

Just another casualty in a chain of truths lost by the Bush Administration.

Well at least the Republicans can't bring up this topic anymore, and Kerry can rest easy knowing he's the real war hero in this election.

Exactly how does this make Kerry a war hero? What did he do to earn that distinction?

Does the article say when they were destroyed? I am not joining the NY Times for the sometime fake and eternally biased reporting! Batches of records are destroyed all the time. He was just a Guard Pilot decades ago.

    Fixed.

 So much for the Grand republican conspiracy!

And thanks Stephen Cronin for the very Moore-like presentation of the article.

No. There are three months of records missing, that is all. They don't have paper copies of them (the paper was destroyed when they where converted to microfilm, not an uncommon practice and probably happened in the 80's).

Yea, considering it was the pentagon under President Clinton that lost them. Maybe Al Gore has them?

They are in a box under a table outside the first ladies quarters!

  13. I hope that if I run for president some day that some weirdo won't make a big deal over the fact that the Medical department lost my records a few months ago. I really don't know how I could respond except by telling them to get a life.

Thats why I dislike reading the Times so much - they'll give you a full page article, and then three days later, buried in 'corrections' they'll have a four paragraph article detailing their screw up.

Get it right the first time, if you're the 'paper of record'.

    AP:

"WASHINGTON - The Pentagon on Friday released payroll records from President Bush's 1972 service in the Alabama National Guard, saying its earlier contention the records were destroyed was an inadvertant oversight."

They go on to state officials were using the wrong index number.

Imagine having trouble going through the huge mountain of 30 year old military records? Anyone care to opine that they were wrong on this? Or is it just another conspiracy?

Conspiracy, because the documents didn't contain the information Bush wanted.

Yup. That's one sneaky conspiracy. Make everyone think they are lost then....find them and make then public!

Would it not be better if the records "did" contain that information so the conspiracy crowd could call them fake?
