i just cant wait for all the videos BJ is going to put on his website freaking out about how he won the fight.
then i wont be able to wait for someone to splice that video with his commentary post Penn v GSP I when he kept saying he wont because GSP looked worse for wear.

Penn already congratulated Edgar on winning the title in a vblog on his website.

But then again..it's Penn. Dude is probably going to dicktuck tomorrow and say he got robbed just like his rematch against GSP.

I agree. You have to beat the champ to be the champ. Penn landed more the first 2 rounds, the 3rd was pretty even. He looked to be merely reactive in the 4th, and dead in the 5th but still competitive.

Edgar did nothing to take that fight away, and whatever judged scored it 50-45 is fucking blind. Edgar stole that fight and BJ will be back before long to reclaim it. I'd wager BJ was injured and t will come out in the next few days. He didn't look himself, certainly not aggressive. DEFINITELY not ready to step up and fight at 170.

I like BJ a lot, but its always a toss up on who shows up fight day. I think he just didn't respect Edgar's skills and simply didn't train hard figuring his natural abilities would be enough.

the scoring is kinda moot as per Dana's saying "don't leave it in the hands of the judges"

Simple fix to this, give the fighters a bonus for finishing.

I thought Edgar fought great but aside from if he knocked BJ down with a big shot or was able to hold top position for more than a couple seconds I was pretty sure the judges were going to default to the regining champ ie Machida/Shogan...

Fucking UFC judging is inconsistant as shit. The 5-0 judge is out of their fucking mind.

Edgar was the aggressor and BJ just didn't look right.

Edgar wasnt running, he was, dodging punches, setting himself up and wearing Penn out. I thought it was great

I think someone already made this observation, but BJ looked kinda doughy and unmotivated before the fight even started. He didn't go for takedowns when his corner told him to..do you think he just wasn't concerned with Edgar and thought it was going to be an easy fight from the start? Or do you think that he came in ready and motivated and was just thrown off his game by Edgar's movement and plan?

I'm a Penn fan, and I scored it in his favor 48-47, but don't start this shit about something was wrong with him.

There was nothing at all wrong with him. I think he may have slacked on his conditioning a little before this fight because he clearly wasn't as fresh in the 4th and 5th, but he wasn't injured or sick. Dude's bored at 155, he's made that clear, and he's always been the kinda guy that starts to slack off when he's bored...he didn't think there was any chance Edgar could beat him.

While I think the official scores were ridiculous, I can understand scoring it 48-47 for Edgar...as the fightmetric shows that 3rd round was very close. Plus the later rounds are fresher in the judges minds...you just can't slack off in the championship rounds and expect to eek out a decision.

I hope he shows some maturity by keeping his mouth shut and getting hungry again.

I don't agree...I think Edgar is very exciting to watch. He maintains a ridiculous pace and he's good everywhere...he's not boring at all.

Now that would be boring. I don't think he'll get a shot before BJ gets a rematch anyway...when a champ loses his belt after a close decision, he usually gets a crack before anyone else.

Penn is the most exciting lightweight. Possibly the fastest hands at lightweight (although Edgar challenged that), but with knockout power in both hands.

On top of that, you usually can expect a fight to be finished when BJ fights.

Edgar is a badass but fights just seem boring when you're pretty sure that it's going to decision. It's the reason why nobody wants to watch Jon Fitch.
