Ok guys, i have a question for you. My uncle suffers from parkinson's disease and it just recently got bad enough for him to have to move into assisted living and sell his house because he is declaring bankruptcy. Among the things we had to remove from my uncles house there was a pistol, which my father decided to keep. My father has never been in trouble with the law but has never purchased a handgun or had a permit either. Is it illegal for him to posses the handgun, and what does he need to get it all straight by law for him to have it?

In North Carolina, it appears that you need a permit to buy, sell, give away, or inherit a handgun. This situation might be a little tricky since the person giving away the handgun has Parkinson's and may not understand (I don't know much about the disease).

I'd check with your sheriff/attorney to make sure.
