I worked out at my school gym today, which I've never done during normal hours, and for one, it was way too busy, but secondly, there were some guys putting up decent weight. Anyways, there were enough people there that I couldn't even find enough plates to do deadlifts, so I asked two guys if I could work in. They were cool, so I did. I've only locked out 405 once, but they just kept adding weight on, and I didn't want to stop if they were still going, so I pulled 405 all the way up in one smooth motion. Pressure not to fail when people are watching you = way more motivation than lifting alone.

I'll have to try working out there more often.

it helps at first, or at least while you are mentally capable of not pushing too much. otherwise it can push you to lift too much too fast and bad form/injury result.

but good job on the pull!!!

yeah sometimes i think i want someone there to push me harder, but at the same time, i do ok on my own so why risk the embarassment of a missed lift :o

think its a more controlled environment. at the least the one I saw was?? a highschool gym is filled with a lot more ignorance I would think.
Also, I wouldnt think you would go to a pl meet 4 days a week... I think its hard to compare the two.

I dunno. I might get more pumped, or I might be overly worried about screwing up that I actually screw up.

Tossing in a couple of hot cheerleaders will bump any of your big 3 up 15%.......just something to consider.

    Women weaken knees.

    But girls inspire lifts.

it is sickening how PL meets pump you up. guys around you that are gonna give it their all, that are watching you, judging you, making assumptions about you, friends that are there to scream at you to "LOCK IT OUT" or "PUSH THAT SHIT" and all the waist belts being buckled in, chalk dust in the air, judges saying "up!" for squats, and "lift!" for deadlift lockouts, faces blood red after each maxout, heavy breathing....

being a 5'7'' asian...i always have guys that are snickering about me and i know they are judging me. most guys will hype themselves up before each lift, smack their heads, start huffing and puffing...but for me...i am calm, quiet, and i meditate before each maxout. then they see a 17 year old asian kid put out 435 squat and they say "oh, nice job"

    haha, priceless.

I would personally be way more embarassed to fuck up at a meet, than i would infront of the people at my school gym. Buit then again, my school gym is verry unmotivating.:wtc:

I use the hot chicks at the gym for motivation. My partner and I like to crack jokes though, so sometimes I end up laughing and dropping shit. Having a gang of people work out with you is good though. Helped me max out at 6 plates per side on the leg press :eek4:

The worst part is that sometimes I just bust out laughing when someone is spotting me. Especially on the bench because his package is right above my face :mamoru:

He'll be like "gogogogogogo you can doo eeet"

    I'll be like "shiiiiitititiitititit "

How much do you weigh? I have my doubts about a 435 squat when you are 17.
