could be a cooling problem with the chip. what kind of fan are you using?

im using the fan that came w/ the cpu. one thing i forgot to mention. my pc would not boot for some reason if i have the fan/heatsink securely on the cpu ( theres one on each side of the fan that hooks onto the cpu). but if i only have one latch locked on the cpu it would boot fine. why is that?

no idea, but do yourself a HUGE favor and go get a new fan.

not having full contact with the chip can lead to failure of the chip, and the problems you're having sound like too much heat getting to the chip, and it shutting down.
