what are you guys using? which would you recommend?

    is 5.1 necessary?

L4D has brought be back into the PC scene, and playing survival mode is impossible without a mic.

    such as?

looking at some of Sennheiser's stuff, and it's kinda pricey. im guessing it's because you're basically paying for the brand?

I'd get some noise-cancellation headphones and a mic separately. I have some Sennheisers that cost $80, with a logitech mic that's $10.

This is what I do. Get one of the desk mics and nice headphones and you will be in gaming heaven.

I have some $35 logitech ones that folded up and seemed nice at first, but then they snapped on both sides once when I was putting them on my head and last night I ripped the wires out of the volume box in a drunken state. not buying those again :o

What are considered "nice headphones" for gaming purposes? That Zalman mic looks quite slick, good reviews & cheap... my kind of mic.

I have it right under my chin where the wire hangs. That is only place I think is the most logical spot other then putting it right under the ear piece.
