Is there anything built in into XP itself to password folders? Or I need a 3rd party program? If so, which is a good one to use? I prefer something simple, no flashy GUI needed, etc... or any software to protect a USB stick? Thanks for any info

Why not just create your own user on XP, and make anyone else who wants to use your computer use a different login?

Separate user accounts is really the best way to go, if not the only way. Single-user computers are SO win98.

Well honestly its not for my desktop. I want to protect my folders in my USB stick. Now I did find a good simple program, but it needs to be installed to every pc I connect the USB stick. Its cool though, becuase without installing the program it redirects the locked folder to Control Panel, which is kinda nice!

Actually what you want is a program to encrypt the contents of the folder. Anything else could probably be circumvented. TrueCrypt is open source and does this (and can be run from the USB key without installation).

    .

I don't have any experience with his utility, but encryption is what you want.

Here you go. I forgot what site I got it from, so I uploaded to my google pages. This is version 2.0.0. which is freeware. 2.1 has addons that need to be installed in order to install actualy program so I dont recommend that one. fyi 2.1 was last updated in early '05, so I dont know if any new updates will be released.

Same thing I use. Great program

Only problem is you can't install the program on a computer where you do not have admin rights as it requires a driver to be installed.
Althought I think it can be run in traveller mode(?)

Yea, I didn't read the FAQ on it but there is a USB only mode for it. Just got to remember not to encrypt the entire key so you have room to store the program.
