K im watching some old school UFC (before they had rules and it got lame) and im wondering why they dont jsut get a couple soldiers in there and fight them...from my understanding you guys have some good hand to hand combat skills.

how would a soldier do in these competitions assuming they didnt try to kill the other person?

I know it sounds like a stupid and childish question, but i cant fight the curiousity haha

ibigetflamedforaskingastupidquestion...i know i deserve it haha

Our H2H combat is really generic. Just how to properly tackle someone, chokes, a few grabs, etc. The advanced H2H combat classes aren't anything like UFC.

Maybe it's different for Marines, but in the Canadian Army we don't have many fulltime H2H combat people. Hence, I doubt any of us could compete.

ken shamrock helped design the marine corps combat system

but why don't they pit Marines against Marines?

because they don't want to destroy the world

UFC and Pride fighters dedicate their entire lives to the sport. Soldiers are trained to kill and hand to hand combat is at least in my opinion pretty minor compared to everything else. Claims like a SEAL would kill any UFC fighter are unfounded and to be frank it's dumb. Elite as they may be it doesn't compare to someone who trains MMA 7 hours a day every day. Even so called "cans" in these major fight orgs would tear it up in most MMA gyms. Thats just my opinion though. Think what you will.

Edit: That's not to say that there aren't soldiers that are great fighters in the ring as well. I know there are plenty of great boxers and Randy Couture, a former Army man, was/is one of the best in the world when it comes to MMA.

we shoot way more than we do H2H. Very rarely will there be a situation in which you go one on one with the enemy in a H2H fight to the death.

We are taught only 1 hour of hand to hand combat once a month. Because they feel if they pushed it up to more than that we might be too dangerous to control.

We got combatives for a week at basic, UFC type stuff (blood chokes, takedowns, dominant position). Then we did it twice a week for PT at OCS. We got level 1 qualified at OBC, and you could volunteer for level 2 training. I'm level 2 certified but I would get destroyed by any MMA fighter.

    Army BTW.
