I recently rewatched this movie, and it becomes more involving, entertaining and magical the second time around. It's just masterfully directed, edited, acted, and shot. Nothing is in excess, all parts of the story are intertwined and necessary. I honestly can't understand how anyone couldn't love this movie. Not like, love.

I don't care about hype, and I've never given a shit about hype. It's that damn good of a movie. I can see someone having issues with fantasy in terms of taste. In terms of quality as a movie, it's absolutely undeniably excellent.

i dunno man. going in, after all the ridiculously good reviews and raving on OT, i thought it would be an amazing, ground-breaking film. it's good, especially the visuals, but nothing spectacular. :dunno: the story wasn't anything to write home about; it's been done before.

Absolutely. If you aren't affected by Mercedes' humming of the lullaby she taught Ofelia in the middle of the movie upon her deathbed, you are probably devoid of human emotion.

The story's been done before? Put your money where your proverbial mouth is and let us all know where exactly you've watched a story anything like this.

And it most certainly was a spectacular, amazing, ground-breaking film, as was recognized by 99% of moviegoers and the vast majority of the critical and film-making worlds.

That's a matter of subjective preference, and most certainly not an actual flaw. I think that any more fantasy would have detracted from the overall film.
