I used to have a pretty good sony STR-de475 receiver i got brand new open box for $80 (retail on it was 299 back then) 5.1 digital and dts

right now i'm using a panasonic SA-HE75 which i also got for cheap (around $115 new) is this any better or are they both total POS receivers?

I have pretty good speakers. Is there any advantage to buying a nice but inexpensive onkyo or what? I just want to run 5.1 i dont need the extra channel bullshit

I will never buy another Sony receiver. Both of them I've owned have given me nothing but trouble. But if yours is working right then I dont see much difference between the two. I'd say whichever one is easier to use.

As for the Onkyo...well it may sound a little cleaner; really depends on how much it costs IMO.

I don't think any Sony is worth a crap these days. That being said I had an older (1998) Sony ES reciever. Never gave me a single problem and performed rather well. You are gonna have a hard time finding anything other than 7.1 reviever in this day and age at any price point. How much are you willing to spend? What speakers are you going to run?

I use a Panasonic 5.1 HT setup for my computer speakers... works great, love it. Could never replace my Yamaha HT setup for the mediacenter, tho.
