What are your opinions on this camera? I am looking for a point and shoot compact that is something that is fairly easy to use but offers the option of "growing into". I have 0 experience with photography short of just casual vacation pics and such.

I have one and I like it. Would definitely recommend it. It has all the regular p&s auto settings on the dial as well as the semi auto and manual settings. It has a bunch of settings you can change, so I'd say it gives you plenty of room to grow into it. My only gripe is that although it's not horrible, the joystick thing you use to change the shutter speed and aperture isn't as quick as a wheel would be.
    Also, f/2.0 is awesome.

I went for the Canon G10 instead.

Longer zoom was why I chose it over the Lumix.

i had the lx3 but went for a G10 for the same reason. plus the lx3 feels delicate while the G10 feels solid and fits the hand better.

Handy tool, yes. Would be nice to complement a DSLR.

As an only camera, not so much. Not enough focal length.

yes. The LX3 is more of a niche camera.

i dunno why you guys want so much telephoto. i love the fast wide lenses. when i need telephoto i never grab my point and shoot (i almost never zoom in either) i grab my SLR when i need a Tele.

the main diffrence is the lx3 is a wider angle of view and about a stop faster
the g10 is more bulky and zooms in (much) more

the image quality is very similar.
a case is really nice to have for both. the lx3 case is next to impossible to get. the 24mm optical viewfinder for the LX3 really is great to have too.

Thanks a lot! I think I'm just going to go in to B&H and check it out in person. I will probably go with the G10 just because it seems like the LX3 is near impossible to find anywhere.

also if anyone has any other recommendations on cameras other than the two mentioned above in a similiar price range that would be great.
