Whenever I move my neck, I get this horrific pain on the right side of my upper back. No pain or anything if I shrug my shoulders up, forward, or back, just when I move the neck. It's unbearable right when I wake up in the morning but seems to loosen up throughout the day, or at least enough to where I can look behind me without wanting to cry.

WTF, anyone ever had something like this? I've got a doctor's appointment at 2 but I've got a feeling that I'm just gonna be told to stop lifting and be given muscle relaxers.

You probably just slept on it wrong or strained it during one of your workouts.

did you guys try stretching or anything? went to the doctor and he didn't know shit.

I'm gonna get a massage later on tonight and then jump in the hot tub, hopefully that'll help out some

Yeah, I think you have to move from the giant pussy stage to the decently strong yet still weak stage before you start getting aches and pains. Dont worry, you might move up one day

You know, its not as if you move ridiculously heavy weight either, or have a hard body yourself.

I used to get the same thing... often enough actually. Since I started regularly stretching my neck, very rarely.

you need resistance exercises (an external force)
stretching it would help as well

if it's possible, have someone give resistance to your shoulder (upper trap location) while you shrug. do one side at a time.

when you say it hurts when you move it, what direction do you move it in?

seems like it could be your levator scapula that causes you pain; it's one of the major muscles of the neck/shoulder.

if you went to the doctor and he didn't find anything, I'd suggest going to see a Physical Therapist maybe (one that doesn't take referrals from a physician)

a P.T. could diagnose you and let you know what you could do to help with your pain

it could be a nerve problem

    hope all goes well
