i did 3 sets of sc deads for a warm up about 10 days ago and noticed pain in my ribs. i took it easy the rest of the workout and the following day i noticed i was a little sore. i shook it off and did my workout as normal, finishing off with side bends at which time my ribs started hurting again on the right side.

the following night the pain got so bad that i couldn't roll around in bed or cough.. i took last week off from the gym but the pain is still there and the area feels tender to the point where i can't move around without pain. anyone experience anything like this before? i didn't realize you could injure your ribcage short of breaking a rib. :hs:

my ribs get sore after i do 1-arm pulldowns or push presses sometimes (the next day, it kinda feels like i'm wearing a real tight vest or something... like everything's squeezing), but i've never been sore to the point where i can't roll over

    is it a sharp pain?

no, it's a dull pain. it feels like a muscle pull, but i didn't think that was possible in the ribcage area :o

i'll do 3x10 on each side with fairly light weight (i don't go past 95lbs.)

the high number of reps (60 total) get my heart going and the motion helps get me more limber for the rest of my routine. it's a really good way to start a workout :bigthumb:

isn't it more beneficial to use bb as it requires more stabilizers for balance?

My Exec Chef was doing these in his gym and had the same pain you described and turns out he separated a rib. He was down for 3-4 weeks.

How would you do that ? It's not because you need to balance that it's better.

using a barbell only makes it harder to maintain your grip

I hurt my ribs about a month ago doing heavy deads. It almost felt like a muscle moved on top of my ribs and then when I did the movement flexed and put tons of pressure on my ribs. It still hurts when I do deads or 1 armed rows, and it does not feel like a injury to a muscle, it really feels like the bone that is mssed up.

It doesnt stop me but whenever I do anything over 455 with deads it feels like my rib is going to snap. Kinda like that feeling when you know if you straighten your arm any farther your elbow is going to pop, only my rib.

I'm gonna say that the type of fiber in the muscle trained is a factor, which goes along with the purpose of this particular muscle in the body's kinetic.
