Looks like most of the workout is for the hip flexors. It takes him half the time before he gets to a reverse crunch motion. The straight leg sit ups that he does are terrible for the back; as you can see, they all crunch with enough momentum to cruise through the transition of muscles and balance, then finish the situp using the hipflexors. As Dr. Stuart McGill in Back Problems suggests, data shows that cycling between lumbar flexion and extention is terrible for the back and is like bending a paper clip back and forth. For the average person he suggests crunches while maintaining a neutral lumbar arch.

In short, the average out of weight middle ager will probably exacerbate their existing back problems with these lifts while further tightening their already sitting-induced tight hip flexors (rectus femoris). Also, while the advanced user may find that this series of lifts do help to pump the abs to stretch the fascial tissue which may allow the ability to add size to the muscles of the stomach, most would agree that adding more resistance to reach muscular failure is more important for results than getting a burn going.
