I'm looking for a P&S for the GF. I want it to be a good all around cam and also be able to take the occasional concert shots. I've been looking at:

    Canon A710
    Canon SD700IS + 800IS
    Fuji F30 + F31
    Sony W55

    Thoughts?

700is ftw... 800is sucks because they are trying to cram too much resolution in tiny sensor...

My brother has the 700is...I wasn't too thrilled about the amount of noise in shadows

Yup, another vote for the 700IS.

My wife has one of the casio exlims and likes it for the size. It also seems to take pretty nice pictures

I agree....700is is a great choice....one of my lady friends purchased one and she absolutely loves it.

I personally love canon p&s especially since they are very stylish now too.

The Fuji F40fd looks interesting too...if it has the same high iso capabilities as the f30/f31

I'm in the same situation we want something small and inexpensive that will take nice pics when I dont feel like lugging around my dslr, after reading this I'm about sold on the a530 or newer a550

I take Mr Rockwell with a grain of salt.

The A series is pretty nice. I was looking at the A710 IS myself. The high ISO performance is a bit lacking for my needs.

I had an SD100 to keep in my briefcase, and I've replaced it with an SD600 as a nice upgrade (also have a digital SLR). Couldn't be happier with anything else. Love Canon for their SD series cameras!
