been doing these with my pointer fingers on the smooth part and I think it's probably way too close, what width do you guys do it with?

On the ring or the actual smooth part in the center of the bar?

If you're talking about the actual smooth part in the center then I would space your grip out.

Each day you train your shoulders use a different grip for that day, from a little outside of shoulder width to a little bit wider.

I was hoping to get Christopher's answer  I'm short so I'll prob move in a bit though. Jmezz, I am doing it from the center like a close grip bench.

    thx all!

for most people, wider than pinky on rings will put too much stress on the shoulders. the only people ive seen use wider than pinky on the rings and use it conistently for years with no shoulders issues are people that are 6'3"+

its similar to benching in that the wider the grip the more possible issues you're going to have.

if you don't have problems or pain then don't worry about it, if in the future shoulder problems arise it's worth looking into..

as people advance more and more things they were able to do with 135 lb overhead press is most certainly not the same thing they can do with a 315 strict overhead press. its the same way with benching.. a lot end up moving grip in over time due to shoulder or pec issues.

just did my shoulder workout and did it right in the center between the smooth and the ring (a bit closer to ring). this is as far as I could go (I'm short). I felt a lot more tricep work then the close grip. I'll work my way up and hopefully surpass my close grip strength

    depends on your build

Your thumbs should be right outside of your shoulders. Your pinky on the rings of the bar is way too fucking wide unless you are massive.
