So, as Ive said, I recently (August) told my dad, and he exploded in anger at me...over the time, ive tried to slip him an article here, and take things easy. Well I guess some of the waiting has paid off, James and I went down to their house the 24th, and decided to stay the night, we curled up together in sleeping bags on the floor of what used to be my room. Dad saw the empty sleeping bags while heading to work on christmas, and joked with us after (mom just had new carpet installed the day earlier) "So did you christen the new carpet". Then, the wind up is, I called my sister in Chicago, for a post-christmas chat last night, and she mentioned she spoke to dad earlier and he refered to james as my "partner". So maybe im making some headway. This is an arduous process. :) but happy none the less.

slow and steady wins the race...

As people become more educated, they lose their fear.

    Another reality apparently
This is one thing I have really found to be true.

The hard part is getting people to have a will to be educated.

How is it even possible that a parent doesn't have a clue that their offspring is GAY?

T: well, reading that gives me a little confidence that someday, when I grow a pair and tell my dad, things will return to a somewhat normal state between us...

That's a great xmas gift if you ask me, acceptance from your parents :)

My mom said that she was surprised too... I was like "Mom, I used to play 'Wonder Woman' in the back yard, spinning in circles!!! I used to put beach balls in my shirt and pretend I was Dolly Parton? And you didn't have any clue?"

True... but once they decide to continue to love their child / friend / sibling, their heart will open and they will learn...

It's all a matter of time and patience

Thats one of the funniest posts on the subject that I've read in a long time.
Has anyone ever been around a 4 or 5 yr old...& you just know the kid is gay?
If you think about it..we all agree that we didn't "Choose to be Gay",so it stands to reason that "Gay-ness",(for a lack of a better word)should be evidedent at a very early age.

And to the thread starter,I know some of us have a very difficult time Comming-Out...It shouldn't be...but it is a chalange.
However...we are the lucky ones....& I say that in total respect to all the forunners that preceded us...because with out them...we'd all still be in the dark ages.
So...hats off to the Truely Brave gays that broke the ice for us.

Sadly yes, you notice it because of the effeminate things they do/say.

If there is another 'FRIENDS' fan here (or one like me)...Ross' kid, the blonde one(Ben)...totally gay :noes:

    Very true...

I talk to my gay uncle, who is 65ish, about his life in Boston (the same city I live in now) back in the early 60s... He lived in Boston during the times when gay people would get arrested for being in "gay bars"... those were the times when, in a gay bar, men could not dance with other men... no male/male touching allowed. and no men in drag allowed... and people would get arrested for breaking those rules.

My uncle told stories about being in drag and having to shimmy through the window in the men's room to get out before the cops arrested him...

    Insane!!!!
In the 1950s, gays were invisible.
The 60s were stonewall... the rebellion... the requirement to be visible.
The 70s was the free love phase... lots of unsafe sex... but lots of freedom!
The 80s was the demonization of the gays with the AIDS epidemic...
The 90s was a HUGE leap in equal rights under the Clinton administration (so much progress in those years)
Now, under the Bush administration, we've been demonized again (by manipulating religion)... But, this is only a minor step back.

We've come a long way in a very short time... And our work now will make it easier for future generations of GLBT folk to be proud of who they are... We are paving the way for those people... we are trailblazers...

Never forget that our duty is to make strides for equality, and then reach back and pull someone up with us... That's the only way progress can be made.

New years eve we slept on an air mattress (thanks mom!) in the same way and dad didnt mention, except being cranky cause we didnt go in the spa with them. Mom claims he's been saying that he's been reading, etc....so a good goal would be to bring the families together for a 4th of july thing, this upcoming year, but it might be too soon. who knows. :hs:
