yes static line. no freefall for me. :(
psyop = socom = airborne (we support/work alongside any unit, including sf,& rangers, as well as non airborne units. our mission by nature requires us to be airborne.) hell, in the 82nd everyone is airborne, cooks, medics, supply, everyone!
and no, not everyone is airborne in the army. not even close. ft bragg is home of the airborne so pretty much everyone here is airborne. outside of here, italy and alaska, there arent many paratroopers.

nah, thankfully. basically, when i got back from iraq in feb 2008 i got dicked. :squint: i was reserve psyop. they wouldnt let me reup as active psyop because i was not airborne and language qualified. (reserve psyoppers arent, except for 1 a single company, and 75% of army psyop is reserve component)

apparently meps does not know how to inprocess reserve psyoppers to the active side. i was told i was subject to "business rules" for reenlistment being prior service, and i simply was not going to get active psyop, choose a new mos.

i called everyone i could think of and tried to find a way. no one knew. (if only i knew there was a psyop liason on bragg... sigh*)

so i asked how i could get back to psyop. i was told the "fastest" way would be to go 18x (sf recruit) and then, quit the q course and go psyop.

    so, i did.

this endevor took me to the super awesome accomadations at ft benning, where i went to basic training. again. :squint: i had to attend the 11b osut. i learned nothing there. seriously. being psyop, we learn the infantry shit. on a nice note, i did not have to do the entire osut, but trather, being prior service, only had to attend the "mos phase" of their osut which was the last 7 weeks. again, a waste of my time. but i did earn an 11b secondary mos.(hope to go get my expert infantry badge within the next year)

after that i sat at airborne hold for almost 3 weeks doing menial tasks like painting barracks. waste of time.:squint:

after that i attended airborne school in july of 2008. graduated and came to ft bragg to start the sf qualification course. this is not what i wanted. i like my job as psyop, so i went for it... as was told i could do.

first day of inprocessing for pre selection (SOPC) they asked if anyone wanted to quit. i raised my hand to the "disgust" of pretty much everyone except the couple of guys i went to osut with who knew my story. the tac asked me wtf my issue was. told my story of how i was just trying to get back to psyop and how the army had fucked me over. i was told that while off the street 18x enlistees had to go back to being infantry if they voluntarily quit the sf course, i would be allowed to go back to psyop as a professional courtesy for services rendered having already deployed and being prior service.

started the process of switching over ot psyop on july 23rd 2008. a week later, i was informed that my psyop tranfer was being renigged. i was to await orders to be an 11b and go to a base dependent on the needs of the army. :squint: when i inquired as to why, the response was that the sgtmaj in charge of so recruiting was having a bad day and i basically got fucked cause some other dickwad trying to do the same thing as me (but not being prior psyop) had mouthed off to the sgt maj and he decided that anyone who voluntarily withdrew from the sf course was no longer gonna get to retrain to a "cool" mos like eod, ca, or psyop. but would go play 11b instead.

so, being totally pissed, i did cq 24 hours on 48 hours off, awaiting my orders to some 11b company somewhere. they didnt come. when late october rolled around, i decided id like to take some leave, so i went to the company on one of my days off.( i didnt have to report in ever, just show up and do cq. wait for orders) it had been almost 3 months, so when i went to the awaiting training company i was in, they had no idea who i was. they were not tracking. i was off the radar totally. sigh*

but this ended up being a good thing, as this is why i never got my orders. ne ways... i asked to take a few days leave to end the monotony of my life at this point. then, one of the sgts remembered me slightly, and asked if i was that psyop guy. i said yes. he asked why i didnt go be psyop again instead of waiting for orders. i told him i tried, remember, and then i got vetoed. he said wait one.... made a phone call, and 35 minutes later i was in the psyop liason guys office picking my language.

the beginning of november i was sent to the psyop pipeline holding company, and then went to bncoc and phase 1 psyop. (intro to psyop. lols) i started language training about a month ago, and will be doing this for the next 5 months. at which time i will go to pog (4th psyop group) yeea!

so, i got back topsyop, but it will have taken a year and a half, earned an mos i didnt need, and 3 months of cq duty. ive been told im the last hardcore psyopper.:o

so thats my update. thanks for asking.

this is the video my buddy in my language class shot on the jump. he was 6 people in front of me. sorry i dont know how to embed the youtube videos.:o

someone embed please/ tell me how.

Add [*y*] before and [*/y*] after the last part of the video url, in this case it would be the pKIzrm3Yaj4 part. Take out the * though, they are there so you can actually see what I typed.

willi...since you're psyop, can you fill me in on the officer side of psyop and even civil affairs...my year group just opened up and packets are being accepted in May and I plan on submitting one for one of the two functional areas.

:eek3: That story is so unbelievable that I have no doubt that it is entirely true. Only the military could fuck over someone like that - and then turn it around because of a purely chance meeting with an NCO that had half a clue at the right time.

    Good job, willi. :bigthumb:
