I thought I remembered reading that according to federal law, a full time student is allowed to purchase a handgun in the state where they are being educated, even if they are a resident of another state.

Did I dream this one up, or is it correct? If I am correct, can anyone point me to a section code that talks about this.

    thanks.

its usually legal for anyone to do that anyway, as long as you're 21, which is usually the required age limit for pistol purchases. :dunno:

you can't purchase a handgun outside of your state. If you do, it must go through an FFL in your home state.

being a student is different though. not too many people know the details and it pisses me off.

:hsd: I learn something new everyday. www.packing.org might help, but thats a pretty complex issue, so I dunno.

I ran into that in college. I had a GA driver's license, but was living in AL for school. I had to get an AL "non-driver" ID card and then I could buy the gun.
