I live in Illinois, which as you know is one of 2 states now that do not have a CCW permit available. I am well aware that I can not carry in-state regaurdless of where the permit is, but can I still have an out of state permit and carry in the states that have reciprocity with the state I hold a permit in?

I just requested the non-resident permit applications from Florida. I just want to make sure that I can actually get it here. I am going to be living in TN beginning this summer, but I would like to be able to start carrying asap instead of waiting 3 months for the permit to come. Is it even worth my hassle to get the FL permit?

    Thanks in advance guys :wavey:

Yes, having a non-resident permit of another state will enable you to carry in that state as well as any others that honor the state of issuance's permit.

So do you think it's worth it to get a FL CWP now or should I wait until I am a resident of TN and get the CCW there?

Both permits are valid in all of the same states.

If you travel out of state a lot then go ahead and get it, or are you wanting it to cover the 3 month lapse between moving to Tenn and getting the res. permit?

I'm wanting to be able to carry right away once I move there. The only times I travel out of state is when I drive to TN to visit, once a month or so.

I'd say go ahead and get it then. How long does it take before you can apply for a resient permit? Also, will Tenn allow you to carry with a non-resident permit while being a resident?

Those are a couple of things that I have yet to look into. I'm not sure if they consider you a resident as soon as you have changed over your DL and registration and have a house or if you have to wait to "establish" it. I also don't nessesarily need to change my residency, because I'll be living there for school (but in a condo, not on school grounds). I can keep my address here in Illinois since I could consider it my permanent residence.

I need to call the state (TN) and find out a little more information. I have memorized their carry laws from packing.org, but I don't remember seeing anything about what I'm wondering.

Well, if the Florida non-resient permit will work the same as the Tenn resident permit then I'd just go with whatever was cheapest.

I think the price difference is about 6 bucks.

I'll make the decision once I talk to the state in a couple weeks.

You can get a nonresident permit from PA for like $20 with no training requirement thats good in TN. I'd do that, and have done that.

Yup illinois and wisconsin are the only 2 states without any concealed carry, although there are several may issue states left that are essentially non issue like hawaii.

Illinois and Wisconsin should just give up and issue ccw's.
I mean theyre the 4% that doesnt issue permits.
Even goddamned CA has concealed carry.

No wonder we get targeted by terroists. Americans have turned into pussies that shriek at the sight of a gun while theyre over there in their sandbox of a country training their children to use an AK47

I hate this state. It just doesn't make sense that they don't want me to be able to protect myself.

That's one reason I said fuck it, and am preparing to move.

Its sad. We think the way alot of people used to think.
We are a select few now, barely holding onto the last foothold of common sense and the guts to protect our rights.

In psychology, the norm of thinking is always thought of as the sane one. The the ones that dont think or behave like the majority are labeled as lunatics.
I guess that makes us crazy then

    +1

The only good thing about IL is the 3% income tax. If a state ban passes but a federal one doesn't, I'm moving to IN.

You can apply for a resident permit as soon as you "establish residency" Which from what I understand means that you need to have a permanent residence there (I'm buying a condo in Knoxville). Also, you can carry with a FL non-resident permit, but you must apply for a resident permit within 6 months of becoming a resident.

I think I'm just going to wait and get my TN permit once I transfer my plates/drivers lisence.

You are aware the legislature wants to increase income tax to 5% and begin to charge sales tax on services like mechanics, dry cleaners, movie theaters and barbers right? :big grin:

California might say it has a "Concealed Carry Permit" but, I takes $4000.00 and an act of God and Mother Nature to get one. I lived in ID and to get one there all you had to do was take a safety class and FBI finger prints.

    ...awesome...

That plus a bullet tax will clear up all the budget problems.
