So I currently have a 01 Sierra Z71 ext. cab. I have been tossing around the idea of getting something a little smaller to 1. lower my payment, and 2. save a little on gas.

I have been looking at the Nissan Xterra, Nissan Froniter, and Toyota Tacoma.

How are these on gas, is the supercharged Frontier good on gas?

    :x:

................also, I would be looking at the crew cabs in both of the trucks.

gas mileage will only be a few mpg less- i get 17-18avg in my quad cab ram and the tacomas are listed at 17/22- nissan being slightly less for a less gutsy v6. you probably owe less than it would cost to get a used one of what you're listing, plus your trade in will be horrible. stick with what you have, it's better for you economically.

Any truck isn't "good" on gas. My roommate had a Frontier and it got 16mpg.

used ones go for the 15k range, you probably owe less on your truck and will pay it off faster than buying a used smaller truck. newer isn't always better, stick with what works.

v6 in double cab only. and anything will be a dog compared to your 5.7l v8. trust me. if you want a change, upgrade your stereo or do a performance mod, will make you forget all about it.

i used to get 19mpg city (babying it, of course) in my old '98 V6 ext cab 4x4 tacoma. I'm sure the latest generation can get near that even as a double cab.

Besides, the taco is the only one to consider among your list.

i see you're looking for a 4x4 and i can tell you have a 2wd truck now, if you haven't needed 4wd in 2.5 years then you won't need it now, and kiss your "better" gas mileage good bye.
