    what's your budget?

for under $5k I'd say a *V6* S10/S15/T10/T15 are the way to go. Make sure it's the 4.3L V6. It's a great motor that's reliable and easy to work on.

for under $10k you've got some options in both the Chevy/GMC's like above, or possibly a Nissan Frontier or older-style Dodge Dakota.

for $15-20k then you'll want to look at 2005+ Nissan Frontier or Toyota Tacoma.

thanks, yeah i was thinking 4.3 s10 would be great but id settle for the 2.2l 4 banger. just more instentive to swap it later ;). if i we're thinkin of some light off roading who is better stock for stock, 4.3 chevy 4x4 or the 4.0 ford 4x4?

For light-duty 4x4 then the S10 is good. I've never been a fan of the rangers, but they're not horrible. I think the chevy 4x4 system is better. If you want to get a little more serious (where you're talking aftermarket upgrades) then the tacoma would be the logical choice.

and don't settle for the 2.2L 4-banger. it's a POS. The 4.3L motor is definitely the way to go.

    .

if youre getting an s-10, definitely get the 4.3

    youll thank us later

same goes with the ranger, get the 4.0

i think the ranger is the better all around truck fit and finish wise, but thats just my opinion

i had one of both, the 4.3 is a great engine, and for light driving, my 2.8l w/ a stick was great too, the 2.8 got a little better fuel economy, and was surprisingly peppy
