    Hey guys,

I'm pretty new to this, can you recommend some firearms for a first time purchaser?

Or at least some links/resources that can provide some good info.

All I know are glocks are pretty good, but I don't like the fact it doesn't have a safety. Any others?

    Thanks

Go to the store and check some guns out. Hold them, see what you like. When you have an idea, find a range close by and rent one.

Sig, Glock, XD, can't go wrong.

thanks for the replies so far... I was expecting a flame or two, but you guys are pretty nice :o

I've read a lot of the posts and I like the HK .40 so far. Been reading the sticky, some good info on there, just wanted to get some of your personal opinions.

Also is the gun store the best place to purchase? I've read a few people on here buying from pawn shops and gun shows....I need to do research on how that works

Gun shows I've been to haven't had great deals when I've been there.

I wouldn't trust a pawn shop unless I knew people who had bought before.

You can buy guns online and have them shipped to a local FFL for transfer.

okay, so you want a semi-automatic pistol.

since its your first, let me recommend a 9mm.

many will recommend a 22, as there is basically no recoil, and its easy to learn on without developing a flinch. however, I think you'll soon want something bigger.

go with a 9mm. Recoil is minimal, but there is still plenty of power to keep anyone entertained. Ammo and recoil are less than a .40

no reason to buy a 40 unless you're going to carry it or use it for home defense, and even so, a 9mm is fine for both of those.. but you'll be glad you got a 9mm when you start shooting a few hundred rounds on each trip to the range...

so if you like the USP, check out the USP 9mm. Be sure to handle plenty of guns, and see what feels good, and if you can, shoot them. I understand thats difficult to do for some people.

Also, take some type of pistol training course. Ask around the local shops, see whats available, or give the NRA a call, @ NRA training dept: 703-267-1430 ( and of course, join if you already havent :bigthumb: )

as far as the HK USP 9mm and 40, they go for about $700 if I recall correctly.

I'd recommend going through a local shop at first.. support your local dealers, dont have to deal with the hassle of transfer fees/shipping, and you can take it back and theyre usually glad to help a customer with a problem.

Because everyone is trying to recruit you to their brand. Once you buy a pistol, then the flames come :mamoru:

why would he want a big heavy chunk of metal when he can have a highly refined, lighweight, space-age polymer firearm that is endorsed by Tommy Lee Jones himself :hsugh:

good point. XD's can now only be sold in states that dont border water, as the humidity can be detrimental.

I believe I've only watched one 007 movie in my entire life, but I do like to play the game, and the DD44 is quite fun. :hsugh:
