My mother was recently diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Guillain-Barre Syndrome is a neurological disorder in which the body's immune system attacks part of the Peripheral Nervous System. Thankfully she is past the worst and is now slowly recovering. The mylin sheath of her nerves are damaged. I am asking for your help with any idea that would help my mothers nerves repair. Currently she is taking large amounts of EFA's. If anyone has any ideas please help us out.

Your best ressources would be :
    1) Doctors
    2) a group of people who have the disease or who know someone who has (a support group).
Myelin is made out of fat so EFAs would have been my only pretty limited guess.

My dad has the same syndrome. He's recovered some but not fully. A guy that my dad knows took some kind of steroids that helped him out tremendously.

I'll try to call him this weekend and find out more about it if you want. How long ago did you mom get diagnosed with it. Send me a PM if you need someone to talk to about it.

The support group often have great tips. They went through the same shit so their experience is way better than whatever any of us can think about.

    You could look into B12.

    Google B12 myelin.

Also perhaps Alpha lipoic acid, google that and diabetic neuropathy.

Note, I am not a doctor, I have done some research on nerve damage over the past couple of years.

I agree with the fish oil, I like Jarrows max DHA.

    Good luck and best wishes.

I just talked to my dad, and he said that the steroids didn't really work for that guy and that the best advice he could give is for your mom to find a really physical therapist that deals with gbs patients. My dad went from being in a wheel chair for a year or so to being able to walk. He still has a bit of trouble with his legs tyring out when he walks, but he can walk for a good bit now. Just tell her to stay strong.

I just remember my dad saying a guy tried taking some kind of steroid and it helped him for a bit. I was like 9 when all this happened so it was probably not AAS.

i believe those with GB syndrome can have symptoms and be ill for a while but most will exhibit residual weakness even after treatments.

best bet for that would be physical therapy. i don't know much about the pharmacology of the treatment, doctor would be best bet.

i believe it doesn't have to be life threatening and i for one think this shows up more in children and it's easier handled in them than vs an adult.

    good luck though

I'm not going to administer any advice, but I will say that I hope your mom gets better and is able to beat the disease.
