I was into photography years ago while still in college. Well, my friend just asked me to shoot his wedding next month but the problem is...I have no equipment at all (sold it all a long time ago). He told me he only has about 1k to spend on photography and was hoping to rent anything that I would need. So...with that being said, I was thinking about:

    Renting a 5d, 580ex, a vertical grip and lenses are up to you guys. I'm thinking either a 16-35 f/2.8L or a fisheye, along with a 24-70 f/2.8L.

I also plan on taking RAW all day long so I'll probably purchase 4 batteries from sterlingtek, along with 2x or 3x 8gb cf cards.

Do you guys have any recommendations for diffusers or how to deal with lighting? That's one part that I didn't really get the chance to dig into when I still had my equipment. Hell, any advice or tips for planning this with one month to go?

two bodies minimum... if you are renting i would get a 40d and a 5d, and also a 24-70 and a 70-200 2.8. a 580ex. and if you really want to get some extra action a 85 1.8.

I wouldn't wanna be responsible for taking pics at my friends wedding.

I don't want to be responsible for it either but he's on a budget (he's still in pharmacy school) so my friends and I are trying to help him out.

    So 5d with a 24-70 f/2.8L and a 580EX on it...along with a 40d with a 70-200 f/2.8L on it. How about something wider than the 24-70?

I was trying to stay away from two bodies since it's me and 2 others shooting as well. Pretty sure they're going to want to rent also but probably not as much as me. I think one of them said he wanted a 70-200 as well, and if that's the case, maybe I don't have to bother with it.

I took a co-workers wedding with a sony P&S a few years ago. They were happy with the results :hsughno:

That being said, I don't think i'd ever want to do a wedding again, even with a suped up DSLR with nice glass :noes:

if you guys really want to help him, and still remain friends... pull some cash together and hire someone.

    This will end in disaster.

Would you make their wedding cake or cater it if they asked?

:hsd: I'm not sure if we could find the money to do that... we would need to raise at least $1000 or something within a few weeks. We're not exactly baller status like the rest of OT. :wtc:

In the few weddings I've done, I have my 24-70 on my D300, and either the 50mm, 10-20mm, or 70-200 VR on the D80. I swap as needed... But those are the lenses I bought for these events.

the 3 friends need to seriously consider chipping in for jcolmans ticket and your friends budget will pay his 1000 bucks. and you dont have to rent nothing since the man owns at least 2 of everything ever made with the name canon on it.

Jcolman - ask the airline if you can hook up your car rig to the planes wing and get the pilot to do some donuts on the tarmac?

Yes, it is an asian wedding. Filipino and I think Viet? I need to double check, haha

They have $1k to work with since they're both in college still. I used to take pictures back in the day so he came to me and asked if I could do whatever I could with $1k. First thing I did was come to OT

I can send you examples of my work. I'm in the process of building a site.
