    first carbine, dont know much about them, i have a mossberg 500 tactical 12ga shotty and a .22 rifle...but i want a bigger rifle. just something to shoot around the property with...nothing really expensive or anything...also i like the ability to add a flash light and a reddot for that cool factor :naughty: and the 30rd mag is a plus :)

    thank you

    SAAMI =/= NATO pressure

    If that's a .223 chamber, go ahead and put a 5.56mm pressure cartridge in and see what happens.

    To answer your question, it is a good rifle for the money. I have seen them go for 799 at gun shows so you might want to shop around. It has a 5.56 chamber.

    negatory

    pistol caliber in a rifle = submachine gun, case in point the tommy gun 45 acp or the mp5 9mm.

    carbine = shorter version of rifle case in point the M4 a shortened version of the M16 still using the 5.56 round.

    wikipedia

    A carbine is a firearm similar to, but generally shorter and less powerful than, a rifle or musket of a given period. There have been many carbines developed from rifles, being essentially shorter rifles firing the same ammunition, although usually at a lower velocity, and there have also been many where the carbine and rifle adopted by a particular nation were not technically related, such as using completely different ammunition or internal operating systems (though the carbine still being weaker, or of smaller size). Which may be more common, depending on the time period.

    A submachine gun is a firearm that combines the automatic fire of a machine gun with the cartridge of a pistol, and is usually between the two in weight and size.

    Hey, let's argue about the semantics of what a carbine is rather than just answering the OP's question! :eek5:

    20" AR15s are battle carbines. 16"ers are carbines

    good job answering there. :coolugh:

    no personal experience with bushy, but form hearing others talk about them and those who own them, bushy is a good gun at least for starting out and even then probably most people. With the flattop style you can add the red dot you were talking about, though for things like a flashlight you might want to look at some kind of rail instead of that hand guard, but you can do it either way. You might want to check with the seller before buying it as I thought all bushmasters were 5.56 and not .223. You can still fire 223 in a 5.56 but it is not recommended to try it the other way.

    would you call a lever action 45 a submachine gun? I've seen carbine refere to both.

    A carbine is a lighter/shortener version of a full-sized rifle, caliber really doesn't matter.

    well I would think by the definition of machine gun a lever action is out.

    however I will note that a quick google search turned up the marlin 1894 carbine (1894C) firing pistol ammo the 357/38 spl with an 18.5 barrel while the standard 1894 fires a pistol ammo again as the 44 mag with a barrel length of 20 inches. in this case I would say the carbine refers to the shorter gun.

    Without knowing what to 45 was and if there was a longer variant I can't say, but generally carbine refers to the shorter variants.
