Got a question about spotlight: can I look through pdf files with it? I tried with a couple that are not scanned, but have selectable text and it doesn't seem to work. I thought the advantage of spotlight was that everything was indexed. Am I doing somehting wrong, or can it just not search through text on a pdf

Yeah, found out that I had to have the pdf on the local drive rather than on the USB drive. I guess it wasn't indexing from a USB port.

Don't know about that but it doesn't seem to work with USB flash drives (what I was having a problem with) and server storage. I would only assume that external USB HDDs wouldn't work either :hs:

just go into the spotlight system preferences and tell it to index your external HDD

    Thanks :wavey:

New to this whole OSX thing. Why does it have finder competing with spotlight, or do they the same thing? I have always used apple+F for searching, but spotlight is apple+space bar :dunno: why have both?

i use finder when im looking for a file to delete since you can delete things from the finder search list. spotlight doesnt let you throw the things that it finds away.

i could have probably worded that better, but i had a spanish final exam at 8am this morning.
