I have a g5 that crashes on startup. OSX loads to the point of the wallpaper, but then I get a busy cursor, and there is only a tiny bit of the top menu on the screen. Just enough for the spotlight icon. I found that I can fix it by safe booting and repairing permissions but it comes back a few days later.

    Anyone know whats up?

boot into safe mode and find out what is in your Startup Items folder. have you tried to setup another user in safe mode?

None of those suggestions actually offer a solution to the problem.

This is a reoccuring situation that happens every week or so when the permission apparently get corrupt.

permissions refer to users or root. try another user if you can.

these people make a good point about pinpointing what is happening in the OS. If you create a new profile and it still does it, then you remove the problem being profile specific and it being an os issue.

    Try it.
